The International Bodyshop Industry Symposium – IBIS 2010 – sponsored by 3M, Audatex, DuPont, EMM, Morelli, Thatcham and Zurich brought together representatives from 32 countries to discuss the issue of standards. Britain is very much an industry leader in this field, driving the development of robust domestic standards, as well as providing templates for the rest of the world.
IBIS returned to Britain for the first time since the inaugural symposium of 2001, this year’s venue being the stunning new Park Plaza Westminster Hotel, a few hundred yards from the Houses of Parliament. With Big Ben as the dominant motif, a total of 247 IBIS delegates from every corner of the globe gathered to listen to a stellar speaker line-up which included the former director of the World Business Forum in Davos, Frank-Jürgen Richter, automotive industry expert Professor David Bailey, Howard Leach of the Aircraft Safety Academy, former head of the Chartered Insurance Institute Professor David Bland and the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Right Honourable John Bercow MP.
Judging by the delegate feedback (which delivered the highest overall scores in the ten year history of the Symposium) this year’s more strategic approach and new format, which allowed plenty of time for debate and questions from the floor, IBIS 2010 succeeded in spades. The following overview will, we hope, provide a flavour of IBIS 2010 and pinpoint some of the many highlights from the tenth – and best yet – International Bodyshop Industry Symposium.
